Buying cars from a vehicle sales park in Benin to resell in Nigeria

Why uncleared cars in Benin’s sales parks interest Nigerian dealers, and how to calculate landed cost and resale margin.

Vehicle inventory in a sales park in Benin

The used-vehicle trade in Benin is not a small local market. Vehicle sales parks belong to a major regional industry built around the arrival, storage, sale and transit of cars. Dealers from Nigeria and other neighbouring markets source inventory there to resell at a profit. Parc Zone FIFA is one of the vehicle sales parks supplying this market and bringing together inventory from multiple sellers.

It is a genuine wholesale business involving importers, sellers, customs brokers, transporters and other professionals. For a dealer, a car bought from a sales park is not merely transport: it is a commercial product whose profitability depends on purchase price, landed cost and speed of resale.

Why are cars cheaper for Nigerian resellers?

The market is especially attractive to Nigerian professionals because the parks concentrate substantial inventory in one place and the vehicles are uncleared in Benin. That is the advantage: a car purchased for Nigeria can leave Benin under customs transit without first being cleared for road use in Benin. The buyer therefore avoids adding Benin clearance to the sales-park price, keeping the purchase price lower; Nigerian formalities remain due at destination.

For our September 2026 comparison, we matched asking prices by make, model and exact year from Jiji Nigeria against Benin benchmarks built from Afribaba, Carisowo and CoinAfrique. Benin benchmarks were about 5% cheaper at the median across 108 matched groups of foreign-used vehicles. The gap was about 23% for the 2014 Toyota Camry and 25% for the 2019 Toyota Highlander. These are asking-price differences before transit and Nigerian duties, not guaranteed profit on every car.

Which models are commonly traded?

Models commonly traded through vehicle sales parks include the Toyota Corolla, Toyota RAV4, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Camry and Lexus RX350.

For a Nigerian reseller, these are useful models to monitor in buyer searches and price comparisons. Demand still varies according to the year, version, condition and final selling price.

1. Calculate the margin before choosing the car

Start with a realistic Nigerian resale price, then set your maximum purchase cost:

sales-park price + currency costs + transit and transport + Nigerian duties and charges + preparation + contingency.

The difference from the expected resale price is the potential margin. Also account for how long the capital will remain tied up. A smaller margin on a fast-moving model may be more valuable than a large theoretical margin on a car that remains in stock for months.

2. Use the sales park as a wholesale market

A sales park lets you compare several vehicles and negotiate with several sellers during one sourcing trip. On AfricaCars, browse cars offered at Parc Zone FIFA and its dealers, then compare the models your customers want.

For a professional buyer, the goal is not merely a discount on one car. Ask about terms for multiple units and build relationships with sellers who can provide regular access to new arrivals. A reliable, responsive supplier may be worth more than a one-time discount.

3. Separate the sales-park price from the Nigerian landed cost

An offer may cover only the vehicle at the park, delivery in Nigeria without clearance, or a landed service that includes specified formalities. Confirm exactly what is included before calculating the margin.

The starting price is lower because the vehicle is uncleared in Benin, but the car is not duty-free. Transit, transport and the applicable Nigerian duties and charges still need to be added. Benin Customs requires electronic tracking for used vehicles in transit. Nigeria currently prohibits imports of used vehicles more than twelve years old from their year of manufacture.

When is this strategy profitable?

Buying from a sales park in Benin makes sense when the price difference remains large enough after every cost and the model can be resold quickly in Nigeria. Start with a small number of cars, measure the real landed cost and time to sale, then concentrate on the most profitable models and suppliers.

Compare the inventory available at Parc Zone FIFA, using your maximum landed cost as the limit for every negotiation.
